A rescue centre has issued an emotional appeal to find a forever home for a dog that has spent almost three years living in kennels.
Harlequin, known as Harley, has been waiting at Hilbrae Rescue Kennels since 25 August 2023.
She originally arrived as a stray and was later rehomed, but was returned after finding the busy household environment too overwhelming.
The rescue said the constant activity, visitors and noise had left Harley feeling stressed and that she now needs a much quieter setting.
A spokesperson said: “She isn’t a dog who’s asking for the world. She’s asking for peace.”
Once she builds trust, Harley is described as affectionate and happiest when spending time with the people she knows.
She walks well on the lead, enjoys chasing toys and remains active despite having bowed front legs.
Harley is looking for a calm home with very few visitors and no children under the age of 16.
The rescue would prefer her to be the only dog in the household, although she may be able to live with a calm, large-breed male following suitable introductions.
Hilbrae Rescue Kennels said dogs with more specific needs are often overlooked but believes the right home is still out there for Harley.
The rescue added: “Please don’t let another year pass her by.
“If you can’t offer Harley a home, the simplest thing you can do is share this appeal. The right person might not follow us yet, but they might follow you.”
